me ti -te lunction —as unpretentious as it proved thoroughly enjoyable, which was organised under the auspices of the Huntly ParliamentaryjDebating Society, aud which took place in the King’s Hall on Thursday night, was in every way a great success, thanks to the energy and work of the committee, comprising Mesdames Darby and Ruston, Misses Dougherty, Gibb and Kerin, Messrs J. Carmody and C. Sta rr. Mr Brit: n had put such amount of work into the floor that it was in great condition for dancing, while the music supplied by Darby's orchestra, was unusually good, and tlie supper tempting. A cosy hall, pleasant surroundings and good company were the factors that made not only for enjoyment but for an extremely pleasant evening to which the vocal -olos and duets contributed by Mr- W. J. Ralph junr., the Rev. J. T. Me William, Messrs F. J. Cox, E. Broadbent and B. Kinson contributed greatly. Before the close the Premier who was called on for a speech, made a few humorous remarks, and passed the speech making on to the Leader of the Opposition, who in turn called on the Clerk, who lvtalix. iby bringing the Minister of T uive Affairs to his feet —an impromptu bit of fun that brought down the house.
