Huntly Town Board.

The usual monthly meeting of the Huntly Town Board was held on Thursday evening, when there were present, Messrs J. I P. Bailey chairman), G. T. R. Green well, an 1 L. < T/fV arris, Junr. The secretary of the Waikato Winter Show Committee wrote suggesting that the Board, with other local b>diesof the Waikato should unite to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the peaceful settlement of the Waikato by promoting an Exhibition in connection with the next Winter Show at Hamilton. The letter was received. The Chairman gave notice to move at the next meeting that a General Rate of one p uiny in the pound be struck over the whole District. The audited Balance Sheet for the year 1912-3 was presented and adopted as read. The Chairman reported to the Board the negotiations for a piece of land at the rear of the Library to enable the Board to erect a building to contain Municipal Offices, together with a Reading Room and Lending Library had been entirely successful He suggested that, as the Board could now see its way clear, tli3 time was opportune for taking over the Library, and moved “That the Clerk be instructed to write to the Library Committee informing them that the Board was willing to take over the institution at once’’. The motion was carried. The telegram from Mr R. F. Bollard M.P. announcing that the Public Works Dept, had at last decided to accede to the Board’s request for a subway rather than a filling at the eastern approach to the Bridge evoked many expressions of satisfaction from the members. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Bollard thanking him for his ceaseless efforts in this connection, also to the Minister, thankuig him for his courtesy and consideration. Accounts totalling £96 2s 2d were passed for payment.
