Rawson Esq., S.M. presiding] A lad aged about nine, who was tried in camera, was charged with having wilfully damaged j I sixteen Westing-house brake : hose couplings to the extent of j 1 £lO 10 - the property of the N.Z. j j Government. After hearing j | evidence the boy who pleaded not j | guilty was convicted and ordered j • to come up for sentence when \ j called upon at any time during j the next six months, the father j being ordered to pay the amount I of the damage?, on * month being I allowed in which to do so. 1 A resident for allowing his horse to trespass on the railway line in contravention of By-law No 28 was fined 5 - an 1 ordered to pay the costs amounting to 7 - the 12 - being in addition to the poundage fee already paid. A young man, 20 years of age was charged with committing a breach of the Defence Act by failing to attend the recent instructional camp and the parades held locally, the usual notices having been duly sent to him. Sergeant M vjor Leech in evidence st ited that the accuse 1 was irresponsible, Constable Ingram corroborating. The M xgistrato in convicting the lad stated that the necessary steps should he taken immediately to have his name removed from the roll. Two residents charged with procuring liquor for a native knowing that the same would be consumed off licensed premises, pleaded guilty, and were each fined twenty shillings with costs seven shillings. One consented to a prohibition order being issued on his behalf. S3veral civil cases were also disposed of.
