3 j ♦ \ i A general meeting of the 1 members of the Huntly Coal ' Miners’ Union was held in tiie ! Miners’ Union Hall on Tuesday 1 I evening when some 200 were ' ! present, r The Secretary asked the j j meeting to appoint an acting chairman, with the result tliat , Mr W. Wood was elected. Bv > the desire of those present the r minutes were confirmed at the .. j end of the meeting, instead of, 1 as usual, at the commencement. The secretary was instructed to write Mr P. J. O’Regan and ascertain whether the attachment I of the seal of the Court was i necessary to make the n ‘\v i agreement legal. It was decided that the balance sheet !> > printed every six months and , circulated among the members. : After a ballot had been taken the following were declared , elected to the various positions: Scrutineers for Extended Min_\ Messrs J.Patters >a an 1 E. Ward ; for Ralph’s Mine, Messrs 1). Molesworth junr. and F Farrimond ; Auditors, Messrs J. Turt >n and G. Bowen ; Check-inspector, Mr J. Fulton; Members of t!ie Committee, Messrs D. Moles- : worth junr., J. Patterson and E. Ward. Notices of motion were given to the effect (1) that the rules relating to accidents be rescinded, and (2) that clause G, which forbids members to belong t > two unions, be deleted, and the secretary was instructed to post notices to the effect tliat all members pay into the old Accident Society. It was decided that a deputation consisting of Messrs J. Valentine, T. Smith, W. Wood and I). Molesworth senr., and headed by the secretary, be appointed to meet the directors of the Taupiri Mines and a- -, thencl© re instate all the men disiifpSecl. For The office of president, Messrs T. Britton and W, Wood were nominated, so th at a ballot t > be taken on Thursday, 27th inst., will he necessary, Mr G• *. Bowden to act as Returning Officer. The meeting decided to take legal advice on the power of the ; Executive to contract Thanwithout the consent ot the general body.
