Union Matters.

DEPUTATION TO THE MINISTER. According to the “Auckland j Star" a deputation waited on the J Minister for Labour on Thursday, and asked for an inquiry into the j formation of the new or arbitration union and the alleged victim- j isation of the men concerned in the recent mining troubles, the contention of the deputation | being that the union was illegal in its formation, the registrar not having complied with the Aibitration Act. Mr J. Fulton, one of j the speakers, complained of the ' speedy nature of the formation, and stated that there was in existence documentary evidence I to show that as minister of j Labour Mr Massey has pushed it through. The Minister contradicted the latter asertion, and denied authorship of a telegram from a Mr Walsh stating that the application for the registration of the new union had been received and that he (the Minister) was pushing it through, After some discussion Mr Massey said the new union had been registered absolutely in accordance with the Arbitration Act, and that Mr Newton, Labour agent, Auckland had been instructed to visit Huntiy and report upon the under which the uWn had been dismissed.
