TE HOE. A highly successful concert in aid of the Te Hoe Hall Fund was held last Saturday when the new hall was packed to overflowing, the result of the effort being a net profit to the extent of nearly £5. After supper the floor was cleared and dancing indulged in until morning. The chairman, on | behalf of the visitors, thanked Mr land Mrs Thompson people of Te Hoe for j hospitality while the vote of thanks to the visitors, as proposed by Mr Phair, was carried with acclamation. Mutual con- | gratulations and expressions of admiration were the order of the I evening. We understand that a teacher has been appointed to the Te Hoe School, and that very soon | the long-looked for institution of a day-school will be effected. The Education Board has secured the new hall for 12 months, at the end of which period a school will be erected. TAUPIRI. Matters are very quiet at present in our township and there is i very little to chronicle. The welcome rains during the past 1 fortnight have had tlie effect of | freshening up the pastures, but ; the change came rather too late ! to have much effect on the milk ; yield. Turnip crops have suffered rather severely from the fly, but many show a good . growth. A large gang of workmen are present engaged in the preliminaries for a new bridge over the Manga wara Creek. The new structure is t > he built just below the old one, and the result will : ho that the rather dangerous j curve immediately at the foot of the mountain will be got j rid of. The Taupiri Tennis Club met 1 the Ngaruawahia Club 011 the | local courts on Saturday, Fehy. 15th. After a series of interesting matches H Taupiri proved victorious by 116 games to 81 Last Saturday the schoolboys of Orini met and i easily defeated our Taupiri lads at cricket, The visitors proved superior in all departments of the game, and some of them showed considerable prowess. The School Committee have received word from the Auckland Board of Education that additional accommodation for 40 children has been applied for. At present there are, I think, 120 children on the school roll. At the annual meeting of the Taupiri Library the annual report showed that there are nearly 400 volumes on the shelves, and a small credit balance in hand. There are about 20 subscribers t<v Hie lending branch with good prospects of an increase. It was decided to take steps to become incorpora ted.
