Ponsonby Boys’ Drum and Fife Band.
In a letter to Mr W. Kay, Head-master of the district sekod. Mr Toni Vivian, treasurer of the Ponsonby Boys’ Drum and Fife Band, states that the Easter trip to Wellington having been abandoned, the hoys propose to visit Waikato, to break the journey here on Tuesday 25th March, and to continue on to Hamilton next morning. Mr Vivian asks that a committee of the Huntly residents be appointed to arrange for the comfort ! and hospitising of the lads who will give their services at night :at an entertainment to be i arranged with a view funds to inaugurate a Boys’ mbid jn Huntly, or for any such Purpose as the committee may decide. It will be remembered that the Ponsonby Band was instrumental in collecting the large sum of £54 49, which was duly placed to the credit of the Clyde Redshaw Relief Fund. Consequently, the lads will not come to Huntly as strangers, while the residents will, no doubt, ; accord the boys a warm welcome, and prove to them that the hospitality for which Huntly is : famous, is really genuine. The inauguration in our midst of a band will not only he a boon and afford pleasure to the residents, but will become an important factor in the education and discipline of our hoys. Mr J. P. Bailey, chairman of the Town Board, and one of the trustees of the Redshaw Fund, has called a public meeting for Tuesday night in the King’s Hall, and, it is to be hoped, that by a good attendance practical sympathy with the object will be assured.
