'Beautiful weather was experienced in Sydney on Boxing Day, and it is estimated that 150,000 spent the day at the beaches.
Melbourne, too, experienced good weather, but more than fifty homes at Kensington are still surrounded by an. evil-smelling sea of silt and debris, left by the Christinas night flood. Hundreds of people spent Bcxjng Day shovelling mud out of their homes. Rows of houses are expected to be immorsed for weeks.
Brisbane holiday-makers experienced a tropical disturbance. Campers on a beach were washed out, nearly" seven inches of rain falling along the, coast. Small floods occurred in some places.
Ascot racecourse was flooded md tile races were postponed. A thunderstom in Snowto, ninety mile s north of Adelaide, resulted' ill three inches of rain in’ ah hour ,and hailstones as big as moth balls. . '
A railway dam overflowed, and. houses were inundated.- • A washaway which occurred on a railway line delayed a train. A flood of water about, a mile wide descended on the township of Caltowie from the adjacent hills, and swamped many homes and business places. Streets and some houses have been flooded in Mallala which also experienced storms. ' : .
