The “Daily Mail” says: “it is hard that Canada should have to. suffer a curtailment of beef imports. It would have been better and fairer if the Irish were embargoed altogether. Loyal states of tne Empire ought to have preference over tile disloyal, in such a matter.”
The “Daily Telegraph says: Britain’s relations with Canada are governed by the Ottawa agreements, whereas the Free 'State are not, nor has tlie Free State, like Argentina, concluded a. separate commercial treaty with Britain. Hence the remarks of difference of treatment and conditions of tlie beef. r llie British policy is to relievo the market of beasts ready to enter in the form of beef, lienee restrictions press heaviest on fat cattle. Not until the Ottawa pledge expires in June, will it he possmie to establish a permanent relationship between hog and overseas meat supplies.

Free .State cattle exporters describe Major Elliot’s announcement as a staggeriug blow, which is going to have enormous repressions, and means ruination to the Irish cattle trade. Farmers will he almost put out of business. Mr Ryan Minister for Agriculture, refused to make a statement.
