As the result, of eight months’ campaign by three hundred members of tile special secret service, the most sensational espionage case since the war was discovered, leading to twelve arrests ol suspects

All were prepared for flight. Much Polish, Russian, and German correspondence was seized. It is alleged that .the ringleaders are a. Roumanian-born Canadian merchant, Bercowitz, and Ids wife. A large sum of money was found in their house. Others include an American-Switz, and his wife, also a French schoolmistress, who was an expert wireles s fan and photographer, also Louis Martin, interpreter for the Ministry of Marine, who fainted when arrested.

CANADIAN INVESTIGATION

(Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) WINNIPEG, December 21. Benjamin Bercowitz, who was arrested in Paris, wag naturalised here in 1911. He conducted a store, but suddenly closed it when the Great War broke out. The. Dominion authorities are investigating his movements during the conflict.
