WHALERS MISHAPS
SEVERAL CASUALTIES,
(Received this day at 12.30 p.m.) CAPETOWN,. December 20:
An oil transport, towing a disabled whale catcher, has arrived from the Antarctic. It picked up a message yesterday that the British factory ship Southern Princess, had seriously damaged her rudder in a heavy gale ano waa seeking shelter in the icepack. This is the seventh casualty during the present season. The captain of * the transport participated in the si-arcn ro r another vessel, The Bera, and found a -whate with )a heavy chain attached to its tail and concluded that when The Bera overran the whale, in order to bring it tail first, it was caught by a huge wave and capsized, giving the crew no chance.
