For the Westland Racing Club’s Christmas meeting opening on Boxing Day (Tuesday next) 51 horses have accepted for the seven races, There is thus the promise *of good fields throughout the day. Several of the events have filled exceedingly well, and the task of selecting the placed horses will not be an easy one. There are several horses from Canterbury, and there is a good Coast contingent. The interests will be well spread and the racing should be of a high class—the course being in excellent trim for fast times. It is interesting to see the Maiden Stakes filled so well, mostly locally owned horses being engaged. The Westland Cup has a field of nine while. in the Hack Cup mile there is a field of eleven. These events should induce speculation above the average.
