BYRD EXPEDITION
LATEST REPORTS
TWO THURSDAYS EXPERIENCED
(Received this day at' 9 a.m.)
JACOB ’RUPPERT, December 17
The Byrd expedition members enjoyed the novel experience of having two Thursdays, December 14, when they crossed the 190th meridan on that date. Since then they have made good cruising time. On Friday they were 1200 miles from Wellington. Freeh north westerly winds aiding, they passed through the “•roaring forties” without mishap. The barometer i s falling and indicates a possible storm. Low temperatures caused the look-out for icebergs to be doubled. ,
What is attracting interest b the fact that the Guernsey cow, named Klondike, is an expectant mother. There is considerable difference of opinion among the cow handlers and others, when the interesting event may be expected. All agree it will be within thg; Arctic Circle thus giving, Klondike immortality within the bovine world, comparable to Mrs O’Leary’s cow whose kicking over of a lantern started the great Chicago fire.
