TWO FULL MOONS

BOTH OCCUR IN SAME MONTH

NONE IN FEBRUARY

The occurrence of two full moons in one month is not frequent, but in the new year the unusual grouping of two full moons in January and March and none in February will be witnessed. The first full moon of ciie year wm occur on January 1, to be followed by a second at the end of that month. February, being a short month, misses the next full moon, which occurs early in March, being followed at the end of the month by the fourth full moon of the year and the second of the month.

The moon’s period between successive full moons averages 29 days 12 hours, so that it is only when one full moon occurs oil the first, or secohd day of a month that the period can have two full moons. As February never has more than 29 days it is impossible for this month to have more than one full moon under any circumstances, and next year it will not have even one.

It is calculated that 18$ years, or 235 lunations, will come ahd go before there is again a similar happening.
