USE OF GAS
BIG DEVELOPMENTS ABROAD

The general manager of the Australian Gaslight Company, Limited, .(Mr H. Tisdale), who has returned from England, said there had been big developments abroad in the use of gas, particularly for industrial and refrigeration purposes. Birmingham Gas ■Corporation had developed a new engine for motor lorries, which would run on compressed gas, contained in cylinders. A journey was limited to about 60 to 100 miles. There were a number of these lorries. A number of English municipalities 'had converted their street lighting to gas, and other K had renewed gas contracts. He was u-nzed to see many European streets, especially in Germany, lit with gas, competing with electricity because of its lower cost. Taere had been much research work in gas appliances and uses.
