REPORT DENIED

BY STATE ADVANCES DEPT

RATES ON INTEREST PAYMENT

(Per Press Association, Copyright)

WELLINGTON, December 13

There appear to have been reports circulating in some parts of the Dominion that the State Advances Department officers have advised the mortgagor to pay instalments on interest due to the Department rather than rates to local bodies. One ot those reports was to the effect that there had been several cases of the kind in Onehunga. When the statements were referred to the Superintendent of the State Advances Department (Mr E. 0. Hales), that official gave the reports a flat denial, and said that, on the contrary, instructions had been given officers against the offering of advice to any mortgagor which might be liable to such an interpretation.
