GENERAL O’DUFFY

LONDON, December 13
General O’Duffy surprised his fol-owne-rs by presiding openly at an executive meeting of the United Ireland party. He declared that he would be holding important conferences shortly, but his programme was not announced. He said that, in view of the Ulster and Free tSate Governments’ attitude towards free speech, lie would remain at Dublin for the remainder of the week.
FREE STATE INTERNAL LOAN
LONDON, December 13.
The Irish Free State three and a half per cent internal loan of six milions was under subscribed, but the underwriters take up the balance, the amount of which is not stated. The last minute subscriptions included £IOO,OOO from the funds of the Free State Courts; £50,000 from Galway Hospital; and £14,000 from Cardinal McCory. The result is far below Mr de Valera’s expectation.
