FROST DAMAGE

CANTERBURY WHEAT SUFFERS

{Per Press Association — (Copyright.)

CHRISTCHURCH, December 10,

Conflicting reports have been given of the extent of the damage wrought by the frost of a fortnight ago in Canterbury grain crops, but an expert examination has been made of the wheat growing areas, and it i s now possible to give .an, accurate estimate of the damage.

It is now established that, though the loss 'from frost may be a severe,, and almost a calamitous blow, to some individual farmers, the reduction in the yield will be negligible from a national point of view. The, total loss: will probably, not" exceed. 500 acres of wheat so badly damaged that it will be cut for hay. Other crops hav e been damaged to the extent of 10 or 12 bushels an acre.
