AUCKLAND, November 26
“New Zealand needs educating on the great importance to this country of tourist traffic,” said Sir James Parr, president of the Auckland Travel Club, speaking at the club's luncheon on the liner Aloudwai.
Sir Janies said he regretted that lie would not be actively associated with the club for the next year, as he would be the High Commissioner in London.
“Here in New Zealand we have unparalleled ‘attractions to offer the tourist, from any other part of the world,” Sir James said. “There is no other country which has, in such a comparatively small area, such a wealth and variety of 1 attractions. AVith energetic development tourist traffic, from the point of view of revenue, could he made comparable with, one of the great primary industries of the country. Huge sums are being 'reaped annually in European countries from the encouragement of the tourist traffic, and. New Zealand shorn! achieve a. like result. There are great potentialities in England alone. If I could persuade the Tourist Department to let me have the services of one of its young and energetic men for a year in London t 0 get about and make contacts with right companies and associations, I am sure ho would earn liis salary 10 times over in a few months.”
