ASHBURTON, November 29.
In view of the fact that both occupants of the plane were* killed in the crash on Mount Turiwhate, and that evidence is impossible to obtain, We Director of Air Services, Squadron Leader T. M. Wilkes has decided that no inquiry is'-necessary.’ «•••<• **•■*
According to a report to the Canterbury .Aero Ciub, the instructor’s theory was that the. plane -.whs forced into the clouds by down currents.
Members considered the compassed were in the wrong position in the cockpit, which darkened when the-cloud was encountered, and -the pilot was thrown bn his own sense- of direction. It was stated there was a lack of cloud-flying instruction in the Dominion, and it was agreed that the instructor should go into the question of cloud-flying, the position of compasses, and fitting turn and bank indicators.
