(Per Press Association—Copyright)
* WELLINGTON, November .23. - A request that the law relating to workers’ compensation should be amended to provide more protection for; the worker as regards the settlement of claims, was made to the i Labour Minister, Mr Hamilton, by a deputation from the conference of the New Zealand Workers’ Federation. It was alleged that workers were being forced to accept lump sum payments in settlements of claims which jwas against their interest.
Complaint was also made as to the basis on which watersider workers were placed when computing the amount of relief they were entitled to under the •Unemployment Act, and it was suggested that the Board and the Federation should confer and evolve a morO equitable arrangement. The Minister gave • the deputation a sympathetic hearing, and undertook to investigate the matters raised.
