NO REPORT TO CHIEF OFFICER

The chief electoral officer, Air G. G. Hodgkins, has had no word So far of the intention of Mr 11. lan jjjimson, to try to upset the by-election in which he was defeated by Mr P. 0. AVebb, on the ground that the returning officers were not sworn in in accordance with tho law. Mr Hodgkins said it was news to him that any such action was contemplated. Beyond a remark that upsetting of an election was an expensive business, Mr Hodgkins had no < eminent to make.

Mr Walter Nash formerly occupied by Mr 'A. jortlnii. who was elevated io the front benches upon the dcatii of hjs leader, Mr H. E. Holland.
