AN EXPLOSION
IN PAPAROA MINE.
ONE-KILLED ; TWO INJURED

G'REYMOUTH, November 27
-An explosion occurred in the main level of the, Paparoa mine shortly after. ■wotiC Commenced at eight this morning. „ Frank .McQuaid, single, aged about 140, ia r native of Ireland, was killed. Phillip Martin, married, aged about 40,"'bad a leg broken and. received cuts oin the head and burns.
William Walker, single, 35, was knocked over by the force of the explosion. arid received burns on the arms and head. The men were soon extricated after the dust had settled.
The origin of the .explosion is a
mystery. McQuaid and Walker, who were workmates, were at the face. Walker left the working place with, a truck, the explosion -occurring during his absence. Martin, who was working fifty yards law ay, was knocked over fby the tiuck, which was driven along the level: by the force of the explosion.
Approximately twenty men were m the mine at the time.
