NEW AERO CLUB

FOR S. WESTLAND

MEETING HELD AT ROSS

A meeting was held in the Coronation Hall at Ross on Saturday evening for the purpose of considering the matter of the formation of a South Westland Aero Club.

The Mayor 1 (Mr H. Osmers), presided over an attendance of close on 30 per-

sons. Mr J. IT. BraiLsford, of Greymouth, attended and explained he had been asked to give assistance in establishing a club, which the. late Mr. J. B. Kenton already had well in hand previous to his fatal accident. Feeling reference was made to the great loss that had been sustained by the death of Mr Renton who had taken such a keen interest in aviation on the Coast. ' ::;4 It was suggested; that a club might be formed taking in ' Ross, Harihari, Matainui, Waiho, Weheka and: other southern, districts, and as'the'the club had to be incorporated not later than Monday time would not permit of holding meetings further south at present,, so it would necessary to complete the formation at this meeting. After Mr Rrailsford had fully explained the, working of the club it was resilved to form a club, to the called the South Westland' Aero Club. Twenty-three of those present then , signed up as members. The following officials were appointed Patron :—Mrs M. Grimmond, Southern districts to be asked to appoint another three; President, Mr ET. Osmers ; vice-presidents, Mr G. H. Chapman. Southern districts to appoint a further two; Auditor, Mr A. W. Peebles: secretary and treasurer, Mr K. O. May; committee, Messrs G. H. Chapman, A. W. Peebles, J. J.'. Rea, H. Johnston, J. Houlahan .and file . secretary. It was decided that' the South Westland Aero Club proceed-to incorporation and the rules,as read be. l adopted; also that the registered office be in Moorhouse 1 Strejet, Ross. Messrs Chapman', 'Peebles and' John-ston-avere appointed delegates to-attend central meetings of coast clubs. It was resolved to'notify the southern districts • that the meeting had * been held and an. explanation given as to why the meeting .had been, called so hurriedly. ’ ' At a meeting of the committee held immediately after, Mr G. H. Chap- : man , was appointed chairman - for the ensuing term. In connection with the newly formed club, it was stated that the Ross Borough Council had already a landing ground well under way, and now with the assistance of the local club it should not 1 be very long before a first,'clask laiidittg ground is completed. The site selected is situated on a borough reserve on the station road find is most conveniently situated to the- town. - - \ . -
