H.M.S. Achiles established a world’s speed record for a warship of her class, covering 1100 nautical miles from Gibraltar to Portland in thirty-nine hours, equivalent to twenty-nine knots. Tile Achiles proved than the German liner Bremen, holder of the Atlantic blue riband. .
