AUCKLAND RADIO STATION

IZR UNDER NOTICE

AUCKLAND, November 23. Notice of dismissals, to take effect after December 3, was received by tiie members of the staff of' the Gov-ernent-'B class radio station, . IZll from the Post and Telegraph Department. The members of the staff are Messrs Dudley Wrathall (announcer and director), T. H. Garland (“Uncle Tom”), Mrs Basham (“Aunt Daisy”,), Messrs W. Hindman (sports announcer), C. McCarthy and S; Cotton (operators), and Miss Joyce Wisdom.

The notices of dismissal include instructions that no reference to the matter shall be made over the air, and that no farewell messages shall. te broadcast to the listeners. “This will be felt keenly, ially by those who have been givmg\„, their services free to the station,” commented a member ;of the staff. “The courtesy of a friendly ‘Goodbye’, to the listeners would have been appreciated.” _ No action has yet been taken in regard to the “Friendly Road” services conducted by the Rev. Mr Scrimgeour. There are about 6000 listeners who are members of the ‘ ‘Friendly Road.” There is to be a drastic .curtailment of the Hours that the station will be on the air, which will also b« a severe blhw to listeners, •

WELLINGTON,. November 23,

The general manager of the New Zealand Broadcasting Board states that the rearrangement involved in taking over the stations I. ZR and 2 ZW are nearing completion. It can be taken that alternative programmes will be provided each evening, at Auckland, Wellington, and, later on, at Christchurch and Dunedin. Early morning sessions will also be provided.
