The Fire Brigade benefit performance of “Facing the Music” by the Hokitika Dramatic Club, which was postponed from last Tuesday, on account of the calamity which befel Mr J. Renton, who was a member of the club, will take place on Tuesday, Dec.
A final reminder to the people of Kokatahi and district is given of the performance to-night by the Hokitika Amateur Dramatic .Club of the farcic-'l comedy “Facing the Music” when those attending can be assured of an excellent evening’s entertainment. ■ The entertainment will commence at 8.30 p.m.

A motor lorry owned by Mr A. Steph. ens, the well known carrier, was destroyed by fire yesterday morning near Moynihan’s farm on the Kokatahi road. The lorry wa s proceeding with a load of produce from Hokitika, when the mishap occurred.

The Grey mouth Borough Belief of Unemployment Loan Validation Bill was put through all stages by the House last night without a word of debate. The Bill validates certain irregular’ proceedings in connection with the raising of the Greymouth Borough Council’s Relief of Unemployment— Water-main loan of £3,200, and with an issue of debentures to secure this loan.—Press Association.
The Te Aroha arrived from Greymouth and the north' yesterday afternoon, and is loading timber. The vessel made a quick trip from Wellington. Including arrival at Greymouth and the discharge of cargo there and thence coining on to Hokitika, the journey from Wellington to' Hokitika took 45 hours. Some delay in loading has taken place owing to a shortage of railway trucks, but a commencement wa s made at 11 o’clock. The cargo for Wellington will comprise 52,000 feet of sawn timber and 18 ton s bottles.
Private advice has been received in Wellington that Dr F. Furkert, son of Mr F. W. Furkert, late Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, has passed his final examination at the Royal College of Surgeons, London. His success at the age of 26 years is noteworthy, and follows a fine performance in .passing the primary examination only three months after his arrival in England. Dr Furkert has been acting as a house surgeon at the Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital. He intends to return to New Zeaand after a year or two more in England.
