Ernest Bevin, general secretary of the Transport Workers’ Union, was aWairded £7OOO damages , for libel against the printers and editor of the “Daily Worker,” which accused him of being a .“wage cutting ally of Lord Ashfield,” working to secure worse conditions for busmen during the dispute in 1932.
