On a charge of intoxication while in charge of a car, Hugh Donald McLachlan, farmer, was fined £lO,. ancl was ordered to pay costs. His license was cancelled and he was prohibited from obtaining another for the following twelve months. The charge was a sequel to a collision between two cars, accused being found by a constable after the accident holding on to the radiator of his car.
THEFTS OF CALVES TWO MEN CONVICTED ELTIIAM, November 21. Two men were convicted at Eltham to-day for the theft of seven bobby calves. Earnest Edward Smith, 01 Stratford, drover, against whom there were previous convictions for theft/ was sentenced to five months’ hard labour, and David Reardon, of Manaia, carrier, to probation for two years. It was stated in Court’that the companies handling bobby calves had suffered heavy losses throughout Taranaki during the past season through animals being stolen en route to the freezing works. MUSICIANS’ DISPUTE HEARING ADJOURNED WELLINGTON, November 21.
The dispute between the New Zealand theatrical proprietors and managers and the performing musicians came before the Conciliation Commissioner to-day. but it was adjourned till December 12 to enable the employers to consider certain matters brought forward on behalf of the respondents. One was that the respondents said that they could not agree to the musicians employed at skating rinks, cabarets, dance halls, card parties and essemblies, being omitted from the proposals. "j
