Both were severely burned about the hands and legs before Cecil succeeded in wrenching open the door of the car and releasing himself and his wife. Their pet dog, which was on the back seat, was unable to make its escape when the door wa s opened, and it was burned to death. The car, which was not insured, wa® completely destroyed.
Mr and Mrs Cecil were conveyed to Franklin Memorial Hospital, Waiuku, by a passing motorist. They were later transferred ; to Auckland Hospital. Their condition is not serious although their injuries are extensive, and they are suffering from shock. Mr and Mrs Cecil were on a motoring tour at the time of the accident, and were on their way to stay with a friend at Waiuku before returning to Auckland.
