OBITUARY

The death took place at Reefton yesterday of Mr Thomas Mozle, a native of Hall, Cornwall, England and 75 years of age. The was a sufferer from miners disease.

The death has uccurred at Wellington of Mr John Lomas, aged 85 years. Born in 1884, he came to New Zealand at an early age, and was employed as a coal miner on the West Coast, later becoming Secretary of the West Coast Miners’ Union, a post which he held for many years. During the Seddon Government Mr Lomas secured a position as Inspector of Factories, later being in charge of the Labour Department at Christchurch and Dunedin, Transferred to Wellington, he became Secretary of the Department, retiring in 1916, from time which lie had been a local preacher in the Methodist Church.
