ANOTHER ARMY SUGGESTED
DUBLIN, November 17
Another “army” is suggested for the Irish Free State in the proposal of the Minister for-Defence (Mr Frank Aiken) to create a uniformed volunteer force numbering 15,000, but he hopes thereby to induce the dissolution of the Irish Republican Army. The Government believes that- the existence of volunteer., will remove the excuse for anyone belonging to an illegal organisation. Air Aiken is planning to form the force on the Hues; of the "brigade” that the notorious Sir Roger Casement formed of Irishmen in Germany before the 1916 rebellion, but it will be recruited in and named after'the countries- . It will be divided into eight division,, and its members will wear a grev-green uniform. The volunteers will undergo compulsory -drill -at an annual camp, will practise revolver and rifle shooting, and will participate in the annual shooting championships.
