OBITUARY

DUNEDIN, November 16

After’ a short illneSg the death has occurred of Dr Henry John Tizard, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., whip was widely known for his knowledge of mental diseases. Dr Tizard,,- who was 68 years of. age,, was educated a.t the London University, and- was at the Colney Hatch Asylum when he accepted an appointment with the mental hospital' services in New Zealand. Shortly’ before, leaving England in 1908, lie distinguish, ed himself at Colney. Hatch by his ■personal ’bravery in saving • the lives of many inmates during an outbreak f. h e.; ;On His arrival in the Domino‘i. he acted ah assistant, to Dr (now iir Truby) King- at Seacliff, and for hree or four years was medical superintendent at Aishburn Hall. He was medical superintendent also .at Poriru.i, and his wide knowledge wa s also given to the Avondale and Nelson Hospitals. After his Porirua service Dr Tizard returned to Otago as medical • superintendent of the Orokonui Home, ,a .position from which' he retired on superannuation two years ago.

ADELAIDE, November 16,

The death of a noted South Australian cricketer at Adelaide, A. H. Jarvis, is recorded. He was 79 years of age. Jarvis wa s a member of the Australian second test team in the year 1880. He also was in three of the later test teams. He was a fine wicketkeeper in his day.
