HOUSE HOURS EXTENDED

WELLINGTON, November 17
In the Legislative Council yesterday, the Statutes Revision Committee recommended the Land Agents Amendment Bill should not be proceeded with. .
Continuing the debate on the second reading of the Reserve Bank of N.Z. Bill; Hon. 0. Carrington said when the British Government required gold for payment of tile American debt it had bought gold from the Bank of England at its book value. He hoped the Bank would he free from political control .
Hon. M. Fagan said he opposed to the Bill, not because of what it proposed to do but because of what it left undone. There would he no cure for unemployment until tnei'e wa,s monetary reform. Hon. D. Buddo said the Central Bank would facilitate the Dominion’s international transactions.
Sir F. D. Bell s aid the institution proposed by the Bill was not an institution which the Government had been advised by experts to create, but it was dangerous machinery for the Government’s successors. The debate was adjourned.
House of Representatives
In the House of Representatives, on the motion of the Prime Minister, the hours for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday sittings were extended to enable the House to sit till midnight on those days. Hon. G. Forbes explained the object \va s to afford a better opportunitv to get through the business of the session in a reasonable time. He added:— ‘‘Possibly we shall be able to enjoy Christmas in our own homes. .Mr T. D. Burnett was granted fourteen days leave of absence on account of illness. ' . : The Budget debate was continued and wa s adjourned, when the House rose at midnight.
