(Received this -day at 1,30 p.m.) LONDON, November 15.
j A Vatican City message states the Pope denounced the presence of women at the Carnera-Uzcudun fight, during an address on the canonisation of three women saints. He condemned the participation of women in any violent sport, and said the example of women saints was much needed to-day. Ho regretted young Christian girls accepting invitations to exhibitions at. which it was impossible to preserve God’s gifts of modesty,. dignity and grace. His Holiness denounced “immodest costumes” worn at sport and, recalled the example of Saint Perpetra, an early martyr, who was thrown into a wild bull arena and repeatedly tossed and gored. Even in death’s agony, she was not concerned with her wounds, but wrapped her torn clothing round her body so as not to offend her modesty.
