HIGHER SALARIES
AUCKLAND BOARD’S DECISION, WAGE CUT RESTORATION. (Per Press Association, Copyright). AUCKLAND, November 14.
A decision to increase the salaries of the emploj’ees of the Auckland Harbour Board by five per cent., as from November 1, was made at the meeting of the Board. The Board ha s further decided to make adjustments to avoid any inequality or injustice, and has resolved that rationing should be continued, as at present, until the matter has been considered in six months’ time.
i Since June 1931, three sal: ry re-J j ductions have been made by the Board, ■ The first was 10 per cent, on salaries of £260 or over, and 0 per cent, on salaries under £250. A year later further cuts were authorised as follows: per cent, off salaries from £lOl to £350; 5 per cent, off salaries from £351 to £500; 71 per cent, off salaries from £5Ol to £IOOO. In March of this year, a third reduction was effected. In the case of salaries exceeding £250 a year and less than £450 a year a reduction of 5 per cent, was made, hut the ,salJ arios below £250 a year were not reduced. The salaries in excess of £450 were reduced by 74 per cent.
