LUBECK.TRAGEDY RECALLED. DEATH OF DR. CALMETTE. i Dpiled Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) PARIS, October 29. The death of Dr. L. 0. A. Calmette is recorded at the age of 70. He was sub-director of the Pasteur Institute ■Dr Calmette’s death followed an operation for an internal complaint. His J serum is known. as “8.C.G.” It is I .claimed .that it will immunise newlyborn infants from tuberculosis. Millions of babies in Europe have thus far been treated with it. German experts declare , that the tragedy causing the deaths of very many German children when inoculated at Lubeck in August, 1932, was not Dr. Calmette’s fault. The serum cub tures on that occasion had been mixed Dr, Culmette was born in the same year and died on the same day as M. Painleve, 'the politician. Both |had been professors at Lille University. CANCER CURE' CLAIMED LONDON, October 29. The Medical Research Council reveals a cancer case, last year, in which a Sorbo rubber ball, containing : a concentrated dose of twenty-five milligrammes of radium, was sewn into an internal affected organ, and removed on the tenth day.
