HOARDERS OF GOLD
SALES IN AUSTRALIA SYDNEY, October 14. : In the dim recesses of Sydney suburban , homes there are still glittering sovereigns—pretty little rustless coins that the residents’ forefathers fingered many .years ago and their grandmothers used for paying the milkman. Yet, last year, private individuals yielded hidden wealth and tendered to the banks of Australia gold equivalent to £1,014,000. This amount was not all mae up all of sovereigns, but included the family plate, brooches, rings, gold teeth, and other pieces of old gold. Some of the best hoarders in the,: country are prepared to disgorge at the present high price. Bankers say that as many as 400 sovereigns a day are finding their way to the vaults. Gold buyers who started business during the last few years would have had a good day if they handled 1000 sovereigns, but to-day 100 would probably be the limit.
