GERMAN AVIATION

NOISELESS MACHINE STORY NOT CREDITED LONDON, October 24. . A high officer of the Belg I 'an General Staff reports that on a recent visit to the Dusseldorf aerodrome lie was amazed to see a German aeroplane passing overhead quite noiselessly, although it was only 120 ft. high, and travelling, at about 180 miles an hour, reports' the Brussels correspodent of the News Chronicle. British Air Ministry officials are sceptical, emphasising that a completely silent aeroplaue is not . yet within sight, though British experiments in that direction are proceeding. Few realise that the air screw makes as much noise as tile engine exhaust, ■ and no effective engine silencer has yet been evolved.
