Guilty under provocation was how Hauiti Materia, a M'aori wonfan pleaded to-daywhen charged with assaulting Moral’ Khuhal by striking him on the head ivith a hammer.

The police stlated defendant had lived with Khuhal from time to time since May and they had frequent quarrels. Last Saturday Khuhal we n t to the garage to start his vegetable hawking lorry, when the followed and there w-ae some dispute about (money, this resulting in an assault.

Defendant said Khuhal attacked her as she was leavng the garage aikl she hit him in self-defence. She was convicted and ordered to come up if called on within two years.
