WELLINGTON, October 20.

A roadster, leaving town this morning shortly before four o’clock, ran straight into a pillar of the railway bridge over the Hutt road, near Kaiwarra.

George Campbell Smith, a married man of Hastings, stated to be in • charge of : the building of a chain of theatres, one of which is the (State Theatre, Wellington, was killed, and a companion, L. Sinclair,, of Auckland, manager of the company, the headquarters of which are in Queen Street, Auckland, was taken to hospital suffering from shock, a. cut on the chin, and injury to his right ankle.

Sinclair's condition is reported to be fairly serous.
