PACIFIC SHIPPING
COMPETITION WITH AMERICA
AUSTRALIAN-N.Z. NEGOTIATIONS .United Press Association— By Ele'Cru Telegraph—Copyright.)
LONDON. October 17
The “Times’ ” City Editor welcomes the Australian-New Zealand negotiations regarding foreign shipping competition. He expresses the opinon that the particular issue at present being discussed by the two countries is the American transpacific sevices, which, it says, are among extremely unfair practices from wjiich British shipping suffers, notably that of America barring Britain’s shipping from trading between San Francisco and Honolulu, while the British shipping is forced to' meet competition, from subsidised American trading to Australia and New Zealand.
It says this is 'a particularly glaring example of the effects of the U.S.A. Government’s favouritism and financial assistance. It hopes Australia and New Zealand will secure a greater element of reason as regards the Irniis-Pneifie routes.
