j Extensive thefts of iron, valued n£9o6, were admitted by James Daden Hamilton Pett, aged 33, married, a storeman. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Accused had been employed by John Lysaght, Ltd., for ten years in sole charge here. According to the police, accused began selling some of the iron three years ago, and used the money for his own purposes in racing bets. Accused had stated that he was very unlucky at the races and generally lost £8 or £lO. If he lost on the first day he doubled Ids bets on the second day. The shortage of iron had ben discovered only in September last.
