AVONDALE’S HUGE DIVIDEND.
AUCKLAND, October 16
iVersant’s dividend (over £200), is easily the largest that has been paid in the Auckland province for nine and a half-years.. - It is a coincidence that the record price vor the district £443, returned by Karanni in a hurdle race, was also/established at Avondale the date being April 26, 1924. The New Zealand record is £1033 ss, received by the solitary supporter of Wairoa Belle, in a trotting race at Nelson in MarcKf"‘t : 92o."'™~ ’
The distribution of the win pool in VersaiiiCsrace .was 'among only eight people (wild'had ten shillings tickets) which meant that tile great part of it was virtually withdrawn from circulation, and consequently the tote turnover was seriously affected. It was really a greater misfortune for the Club than was the steady rain that set in, for although the attendance (6500) was practically the'same as on the first day last year,' the investments £22,403. showed a ileirease of £4,8/3, or 17 per cent.
Versant jwns j'iclden „b,y_ liis i rai-ner, G. A. Holland. Who had'charge of Cron pier, pending litigation jn regard to Croupier.
Eh, lit 10s tickets comprised the win investment on Versant,. and all .were single purchases. One was a girl, who had bought a ticket fop her fiance, while another women held a ticket. No Dirge dividend is complete without Chinese participants, and two of them shared in a ticket on Versant. A young Maori, and four o.her men, were the remaining ticket holders.
