A long career of petty thefts and deception through both Islands ended in the police court to-day, when Janise S. McCardie was sentenced to two years’., hard labour. Accused, admitted eight offences which had taken place in Stratford, Ohakune, Dannevirke, Christchurch and Otago Central. The police stated that accused deserted his wife at. Huntly in 1930. In April, lf|3l, he disappeared with a saddle,and bridle. Last year ho collected two cheques for tomatoes which were not his, and at Ohakune he stole from a>man, who had befriended him, a mare and a saddle. Accused was arrested at Ranfur’y after taking a horse and 4dwt of gold. All the theft- wove monii ones from persons who had helped him.
