The business places, works, and schools here were closed to-day when there was am impressive memorial service for the late Mr Holland at Victoria Square. The deputy-Mayor, Mr Rober.sun. presided. The Municipal Band played “O God Our Help In Age s Past,” and "Abide With Me.”
GATHERING AT RUNANGA
GREYMOUTH, October 11
There was a very large assemblage yesterday afte'rnoon at the ißumanga Miners Hall’ to take part in the memorial service on the occasion of the funeral of the late Mr H. E. Holland, The service, over which the deputyMayor, Mr Bowes, presided, was impressive, proving a. worthy testimony of the great esteem in which the late M'r Holland was held, not. only by the workers of the district, by all closes of the community both in tho southern •portion of his electorate, in the neighbouring districts of Grey.
SERVICE ON DUNEDIN OVAL. DUNEDIN, October 11,
A largely attended memorial service in memory of Mr H. E. Holland was conducted at the Oval this afternoon, when tributes were .paid to the deceased by the Mayor, then Mr Cox, Mr M. Silverstone, and Mr W. MorLand (Labour Representation Committee). Mr Silverstone said that Mr Holland was a great loss to the Labour Movement. Mr Holland would be easily replaced, however, because the Labou'r Movement was so much greater than any single member of ft.
PALL BEARERS AT FUNERAL. WELLINGTON, October 11
The pall bearers .at ' Parliament Buildings were: Messrs 'Savage, Howard, Sullivan, Parry, .Semple and •Langstone. The pall bearers from the hearse to the church we're : Messrs MclCeen, Schramm, Tirikaitene, Mason, Chapman, M’s.P., and Mr P. C. Webb. The pall bearers from the church to the hearse were; Messrs Alunro, Armstrong, Barnard, 'Lee, Richards, M's.P., and W. C. Geo'rge (Mayor of Huntly). The pall bearers at the graveside were: Messrs Jas. O’Brien) M.P.. W. J. Jordan, M.P., J. Roberts, F. D. Oornwell, W. H. Woodcock (Westport), and J. Smeaton (President of the United Mine Workers’ Association).
MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY

Messages of sympathy and condolence to his family and his Labour connections in the death of Mr Holland continue to pour in. Besides the Mayors of many .places, public bodies and organisations of all kinds are represented in to-days’ messages, which include those from Archbishop Averill, the French Consul (K. Joubert), Chief Justice (Sir M. Myers), and w cable from the Premier of Queensland.
CEMETERY” iRE-OPENED
WELLINGTON, October 11
A supplement to the “Gazette” was issued to-day, modifying the Order-in-Council issued .in 1891 closing Bolton Street Cemete'ry, by providing that the interment of the late Mr Holland may take place there.
