DAMAGE DONE

TO MOTOR LORRY. (Per Pretz Association— Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 2G. A heavy motor-lorry was badly damaged yesterday al ternoon wlien, alter swerving to avoid an oncoming motorist on the North road near the Styx crossing, it struck a power pole.

.The truck was driven by Norman Henry, of Courtenay street, St. Albans, and • was returning about 4.30 p.nu from the country to Christchurch, loaded with- empty petrol' drums, the driver stated that he saw a motor-car coming towards him, well over to his side of the road. He swerved, but was unable to avoid a. collision, and the car scraped .along the side of the truck, which was then so far off the road that it struck a- power pole with full force. The truck was very badly damaged, the engine’ being practically knocked out, almost tlie entire side oi the body being wrecked.

Henry escaped serious injury, but was scratched about the face by flying glass and received a bump on his head, ft was stated that after colliding with the truck the driver of the. motor-car failed to stop.
