At least twelve were killed and over 150 injured by an earthquake in Central Italy. /The mountain region of Abruzzi suffered most severely. There were two shocks at 4.36 in the morning which lasted thirty seconds. The epicentre was the districts of Costello di Sangri and Roccaross. Houses crashed, burying the sleeping occupants. The panic striken survivors rushed into the streets and took refuge in the fields.
