BYRD’S SHIP
SAILS FOR DUNEDIN. (Uniter] Association —By Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) BOSTON, Septcmelbr 25. (Byrd’s 'barquentine, Bear of Oakland, sailed on Monday for the Antarctic with the scientific equipment, valued at one hundred thousand dollars. Admiral Byrd went down the harbour in the vessel, returning j with the pilot. Dunedin, New Zealand, will be the .Bear of Oakland’s base, where she will be joined by the Expedition’s other vessel, the Jacob Ruppert, formerly the “Pacific Fir.” The cargoes will be shifted at Dunedin before they 'begin their voyage to the frozen land. Inside the Bay of Whales, the Bear of Oakland will kind Admiral Byrd arid his party of forty, who will remain there during the Antarctic winter.
