Thomson and Hon. Wiremu Rikjhana," after which the Council atljcmnied.-’as a mark of respect >to the deceased members. In -'the House of Representatives the followings- bills were read a ‘first-- time—- ' Judicial-Proceedings '(Regulations of ■Report's) (Mr Ooblie). ; ; > ■ Banks Indemnity (Exchange) Repeal (Mr Veitch). ■ - ‘-.L- ' Meat Export Control’ Amendment (Mr Poison). • ■ : - . School ■ Committees’ Enabling (Air Ale Keen). ■ - •' - 1 - ’ British Nationality and Status of Aliens in New Zealaiid (Air ’ Fraser). Distress and Replevin Amendment (Mr Fraser).’ ‘" ■ introducing the Banks Indemnity (Exchange) Repeal Bill, Air Veitch said it simply proposed to repeal last session’s legislation : which empowered the Government to compensate vjnnks for any losses which' they nUgbt suffer through the compulsory rdisfog of the exchange rate. He was convinced that as a result of tlie raising of .exchange, conations 'had ’.developed ! which 1 had proved more harmful than anyone lire! predicted. The effect' o! the’ Government’s .iclass- ■conscious attitude had ibeen devastating. ij?o industrial, commercial and wage 'and ■ salary elements, and the benefits which it had been alleged would; accrue! to the farming community 'had been largely-'imaginary. A number of members spoke in fa vour of the bill- and, Condemned ' the raising of the exchange rate.-
